About us

A multidisciplinary, inter-institutional centre serving global health.

The Andalusian Centre for Research on Zoonoses and Emerging Diseases (CAIZEM) is a joint, multidisciplinary and inter-institutional research structure set up to provide scientific answers to the challenges posed by zoonoses and emerging diseases from a One Health perspective.

Its multidisciplinary nature makes it possible to integrate knowledge of human, animal, plant and environmental health into a single comprehensive approach. Its inter-institutional nature fosters research collaboration between the university, the public healthcare system and public administration, with the aim of achieving better results and higher levels of efficiency.

CAIZEM facilities

CAIZEM's mission responds to the need for a structure dedicated to basic and translational research in public health, animal health and environmental health in Andalusia. This research centre was created to bring together, harness and coordinate existing knowledge-generation resources, and to strengthen both research and advisory support for public decision-makers on zoonoses and emerging diseases. CAIZEM acts as direct, innovative support for research in its field compared with other existing scientific structures, facilitating inter-institutional research with a new multi- and transdisciplinary approach, while also projecting its activity into society through knowledge transfer.
